Review: Why I Recommend LifeSpan Treadmill and Bike Desks

With the widespread promotion of physical activity for good health, new breeds of exercise equipment are hitting the consumer market each and every day. Most of this equipment is specifically designed for performing low-to-high intensity levels of cardio exercise and resistance training either at a gym or at home. LifeSpan Workplace Solutions product line includes treadmill and bike desks that allow you to walk or cycle while you work. If you’d prefer to use a desk that you already own, you can purchase their stand-alone treadmill or bike, as both have the same features as those found in their fully integrated desks. The only caveat to this option is that your desk height has to be adjustable.

How Treadmill and Bike Desks Work


LifeSpan Workplace Solutions offers three different treadmills that vary in length. Regardless of length, each has a standard maximum speed of 4.0 miles per hour, which allows for performance of a very brisk walk. This is especially beneficial if you wish to incorporate more of a cardio workout at some point during the day, as walking at this speed burns an average of 340 calories an hour.

The speed at which you set your treadmill for working definitely depends on the type of task you’re performing. While writing and other fine motor activities may require walking at slow speeds (1.5 miles per hour or less), other tasks that don’t require much hand and eye coordination can be performed at relatively faster speeds.

After having used the treadmill myself, I’d say that speeds between 2.0 and 2.5 are ideal for reading, web browsing, voice chatting or video conferencing. By engaging in such tasks in an upright position for at least half a day (about 4 hours), you can easily and effortless burn nearly 700-800 calories at work!

Step counting is another great feature of LifeSpan Workplace Solutions treadmills. Ideally, you should take a minimum of 10,000-12,000 steps a day for weight maintenance or general health benefits while a minimum of 12,000-15,000 steps a day is a must for weight loss. Upright Bike

If you’d rather pedal than walk or if you don’t have enough space available to set up a treadmill, LifeSpan Workplace Solutions upright bike is a great choice. In general cycling is one of the best activities for burning calories while improving the endurance of your lower-body muscles, which is critical for carrying out all types of everyday tasks.

Most people incorporate cycling into their workouts by way of outdoor bicycling, indoor stationary cycling, and spinning classes. LifeSpan Workplace Solutions upright bike allows you to include this highly effective activity into your workday.

Now, their bike has a special feature that counts pedaling revolutions, which essentially measures the cadence or speed at which you cycle.
