How Hula Hooping Can Help You Burn Fat Fast

Cardiovascular (cardio) exercise is by far one of the best ways to burn body fat and lose weight. There’s no doubt about that! But, performing this type of exercise doesn’t require expensive, monotonous equipment and, above all, it doesn’t have to be boring. Personally, I regularly engage in hula hooping (or simply “hooping”) in an effort to add variety to my cardio workouts. Indeed, hooping is a low-impact throwback exercise that’s highly effective for weight loss, virtually no cost, and unbelievably fun. If your health and fitness goals are centered on weight loss, here are three ways that hooping can help get you there.

Increases Calorie Expenditure

In order to lose weight the amount of calories you expend (burn) must always exceed the amount of calories you consume. Regular hula hooping greatly supports substantial and sustained weight loss through increases in calorie expenditure. This holds especially true when your hooping efforts are coupled with sensible eating and good nutrition. Ideally, a weight loss plan should consist of a caloric restriction of 250-500 calories per day along with an expenditure of at least 250 calories per day through physical activity. Believe it or not, just 30 minutes of hooping can burn as much as 200-250 calories.

Builds Fat-Burning Muscle

Low-impact, hooping can be a highly intense form of cardio exercise, as it involves rapid and repetitive back-and-forth swinging motions about the waist, hips, knees, and ankles. But, due to the dynamic nature of the motions involved, regular hooping is also perfect for building and maintaining lean muscle mass around these areas. The more muscle mass you have, the higher your metabolic rate (metabolism) tends to be. Since metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories at rest and during any types of physical activity, regular hooping can greatly increase your body’s calorie-burning potential over time.

Effectively Sculpts the Core Muscles

In addition to its calorie-burning potential, hula hooping works the core muscles like no other cardio exercise can. This is especially beneficial if you tend to carry excess weight in and around your midsection. The continuous swinging motions involved in hooping help develop the muscles of the lower back as well as all the abdominal muscles including the obliques (side abdominals) and the rectus abdominis (“six-pack”). Although you can’t spot reduce fat around the midsection, as you lose weight with regular hooping your sculpted core muscles will surely start to shine through.
